A Taste of the New Generation: Patriot Games: WWF Monday Night Raw:December 6th, 1993

It's December 6th, 1993, and the last episode of the two White Plains tapings.  We open the show with a recap of last week's run in by Shawn Michaels on Razor Ramon and the save by the 1-2-3 Kid, which will lead us to the match tonight. In new footage, "The Real IC Champion" promises the kid's career will come to an abrupt end tonight.

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan are on commentary for the night. Doink and Dink are here tonight as will be Crush, which Heenan says that if Crush is here, most likely so is Randy Savage. Vince also makes mention of the comments by Heenan on Gorilla Monsoon last week, and via a phone call earlier Monsoon intends to deal with Heenan if he keeps up his comments. Heenan is not concerned since Gorilla is in New Jersey.

Opening Raw will be the match between Shawn Michaels and the 1-2-3 Kid. Some words by Shawn as he sends the kid into the corner, but the kid fights back with some fists and a shoulder block. Lots of back and forth until the kid gets in a couple kicks that that Michaels out of hte ring. The kid springs off the tunbuckle and over the rope onto Michaels. The kid gets a German suplex for a two. He follows up with a headlock. Michaels tries to break it, bu the kid manages keep it locked in for a while longer. Another attempt to keep Michaels down gets turned into a back suplex.

The kid leapfrogs Michaels twice, but gets caught into a headscissors to the outside. Michaes goes for a whip, but the kid counters, sending him face first into the buckle. The kid goes gor a dive off the apron but gets caught into a powerslam as we go to break. Rib breakers by Shawn as we return from break. Hard whip to the buckle as the crowd chants "123" while Heenan wonders if the Kid has turned ten yet. Shawn goes for a superplex, but the Kid blocks it and knocks him down. He goes for a cross body, but gets caught with a dropkick for two.

Shawn locks in a backbreaker, as the ref does the arm drop spot. But as expected,he gets the arm up before the third drop. Some punches and a kick to the face. Shawn misses a clothesline, but gets a big spin kick to the face. He slowly rolls into a pin for a two. Both men collide into each other. After a while, both men are back up, and the kid gets in some more punches and kicks in, including a whip to the corner and a spin kick. The kid goes to the top and hits a moonsault for only a two. He body slams and goes back up, and goes for a flip, but misses as we go to another break.

When we return, Shawn lands a superkick to the face of the kid. He mocks Razor Ramon by going for the Razor's Edge, and lands it, but refuses to make the three. Shawn sets up a second, and lands it again. He still refuses to make the pin. This angers Razor as Shawn goes for a third, but the kid is saved by Razor. Shawn confronts him and hits a hard slap. Razor drops the gold chains and gives chase up the ramp.

Michaels trips up the stage an dtries to run, but Diesel gets a right on Razor. Shawn chokes Razor with his own shirt as officials try to get him off. A great quip by Heenan "You know the old saying, 'you live by a cheap shirt, you die by a cheap shirt'." Shawn then hits a Razor's Edge on Razor Ramon, albeit not as good as the ones he hit on the kid due to the weight of Razor. Shawn taunts Razor with the Intercontinental title as we oddly zoom into a toothpick. He hits one more Razor's Edge to Razor as the officials finally put a stop to it.

The match was great as both men put in a lot of effort, and with both men being known for a faster style, there was very little downtime in the match. Hell, even the headlock spot was still filled with some excitement. But for as good as the match was, the post-match angle was even better, even if Shawn's Razor's Edges weren't very good.  Although knowing that this angle is going to go on for at least the next four months, it's going ot be interesting to see how they keep the momentum going.

Up next are the WWF Tag Tam Champions The Quebecers taking on Bert Centano and Brian Walsh. Johnny Polo is sporting a derby hat and carrying a lawn chair. Vince continues to chastise Heenan for the remarks about Monsoon, which Heenan follows up with many banana-related references. Jacques mocks Centano and hits a slap, as Centano gets a shot in, and tags in Walsh. Tag to Pierre who lays in some stomps to Walsh. Walsh leapfrogs Pierre and gets a monkey flip, but gets clotheslined instead.

Tag to Centano, as Vince tells us that we'll hear from Macho Man later. Cheap shot by Pierre who gets the tag and stomps Centano for his actions earlier. Body slam and a double team back drop by the Quebecers as Pierre is back in. More slaps to Centano by Pierre as he tags  Jacques back in. Centano gets whipped, but trips and falls to the delight of Jacques. More slapping around. Piledriver by Jacque and a tag to Pierre who hits a senton off the top for the three. Overall an okay squash, but nothing amazing.  Post-match, they beat down Centano, and put him on the lawn chair

Where they proceed to give him a little off the top.

Vince shills the Royal Rumble, and brings up the situation involving Bret winning Superstar of the Year, and most importantly the fact that Owen Hart wouldn't comment on the situation last week. We go to an interview with Owen who says that everything's great for Bret, but what about him? He's got a big surprise that will have everyone talking about not Bret, but "The Rocket" Owen Hart. Heenan continues the instigating as he brings up Bret's successful history.

Up next is Doink the Clown with Dink taking on regular jobber Tony DeVito. Doink carries Dink out on a stroller, and already I'm slowly hating this face Doink with each appearance. Doink and Devito lock up while Dink climbs around on the ropes like a kid with A.D.D. Doink locks an armbar while Dink gets right in rfont of the hard camera. Drop toe hold and an STF by Doink while Dink honks his toy horn. Dink gooses DeVito with the horn. DeVito follows with a dull nelson, which Doink turns around and takes down DeVito, while Dink is still writing on the mat.

Doink hits a slap to DeVito and Dink honks his horn some more. He hits a nice belly to belly on DeVito while Dink is still being annoying. Another headlock takedown by Doink as Heenan suggest throwing Dink down an escalator. Vince shills the Star Wars trilogy airing on USA Network this week. I wish I was watching Star Wars right now over this dull as dirt match. Maybe just have Darth Vader force choke Dink to get him out of our misery already. Doink goes for some roll ups for two. DeVito tries to fight back, and gets a big elbow in the buckle. He tries again, but gets countered by Doink. The clown lands a punch and a whoopee cushion splash for three in a really dull squash match made no better by the annoyance of Dink. Congrats Vince, you didn't wait long to get me to hate Doink the Clown.

It's about that time of the week for the Jeff Jarrett vignette. Jeff is walking with... i dunno, Fatty Arbuckle? Jeff laments on how Music City has sold out, and the lack of any real legends. He confronts a saxophone player, and just sticks with his whole Double-J-F stuff from the past month of vignettes.

Macho Man will return next week to take on Fatu as we go into our main event of the evening. It's Crush (with Mr. Fuji) taking on Tony Roy. Heenan mentions that tomorrow is a holiday for Mr. Fuji, referring of course to Pearl Harbor. Bad taste Bobby. Real bad taste there.

As Crush is set for action, Vince is on the phone with Randy Savage, who has a really bad connection. Crush lays in some blows to Tony, as Macho is not too happy with Jack Tunney's actions in taking him off Raw. Tony tries clotheslines to Crush, but gets caught into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Macho Man is ready for action next week against Fatu. Crush sets up Tony Roy in the tree of woe and laws in some stomps. Savage tries to cut a promo as his phone keeps going in and out. Crush wins over Tony Roy with  a gorilla press onto the ropes for the three in a forgettable squash.

Vince make mention to Heenan that the call by Gorilla Monsoon earlier was a local call, which concerns the Brain. Vince shils next week, which will feature an Undertaker promo, a Smoking Gunns match, and Adam Bomb in action.

Gorilla Monsoon comes to ringside to confront Bobby Heenan. He tells Heenan that he's won a free trip... out of the WWF! He grabs Heenan by the jacket and drags him out of the arena. All the years of asking Heenan to stop, and now he's finally had enough. Heenan begs and pleads as Monsoon tosses him out the door with his gear.

And we end Raw with Bobby Heenan stumbling over his gym bag filled with toilet paper and cutlery as he walks off into the night, and literally out of the WWF. So yeah, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan is gone.

The main reason was that Heenan was intending to retire from the business, and what better way to go out than to have his friend Gorilla Monsoon be the one to finally get rid of him once and for all. This won't be the end of Heenan in the wrestling business as much like many names at the time, he'll wind up working for WCW due to the lighter work schedule and health insurance. Heenan would be gone from the WWF until 2001 when he would have once last announcing gig for the company with Mean Gene Okerlund for the gimmick battle royal at Wrestlemania X7.

In early 2002, Heenan would become a victim of throat cancer, which would cause drastic loss in weight and the loss of his iconic voice. However, despite more issues, and multiple surgeries on his Jaw, Heenan is still alive, and still fighting, and god bless him. Heenan was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 where he stated that the one thing that would have made the moment more important was that "he wished Monsoon was there".

Will I miss Bobby Heenan? Yes. Definitely yes. He added so much to commentary with great heelish actions, great comedy, perfect timing, and a mind for the business. He could hate the guy in the ring, but still put over his work and make him look like a true star. And losing a talent like Heenan will be a big blow to the product going forward. Because at this point, there's really nobody left to fill that spot. At least not until Lawler returns. So godspeed Bobby Heenan, and thanks for a great run here on this article series.

As for this Raw, it was okay. The Shawn Michaels/1-2-3 Kid match was the strong point of the show, as was the ending with Bobby Heenan's exile from the company. The Doink match was bad, the Quebecers match was bland, and the Crush match was forgettable. So this was another Reverse Oreo case. It's definitely a Raw to watch I think. Especially for the opening match and the ending, so with that said it's a deserving B for this show.
